Trailer Audience Feedback

There was no way to embed the audio onto blogger and so we had to use Soundcloud to upload this audio. We got a member of our class who is also doing Media to give feedback on our trailer.

A member of our group shared our trailer on the social media platform, 'Facebook'. Here is a print screen of the response from a few people.

We also showed our trailer to a few students in our school, and here is their feedback on the trailer as a whole.

Evaluation: Question 3

The audience loved this part of the trailer in particular because aerial shots are a very professional and conventional aspect to a trailer. In addition, this is the first significant synchronization between audio and video in the trailer.

The audience really liked the slow motion and change in colour because it emphasised the emotion within in the scene.

Adobe Audition: Background Noise

A very important issue with the limited equipment we have is background noise. The equipment we use picks up a lot of background noise that can sometimes overwhelm the dialogue. Therefore, I decided to learn how to use Adobe Audition so that we could remove background noise from the trailer as a whole; which would also prevent us from recording additional voiceovers.

Here I highlight the background noise so that I can apply the noise reduction effect.

The program then simply captures noise print that I've selected and searches for similar sound waves throughout the audio file.

Now as you can see, the selected region has virtually no sound. as there is an absence of background noise.

Day 5: Missing Girl File

We decided to take a quick shot of the 'file' associated with the kidnapped girl. Featuring the 'file' enhances the mise-en-scene within the trailer and therefore, the production becomes more authentic.

Soundtrack Progession 2

We found that when we put our soundtracks in that we had quite a big gap in the beginning of our trailer in the beginning. We couldn't find a suitable 'low strings' soundtrack to build up the tension at the start, so instead, we decided to use GarageBand to create one of our own soundtracks (using the help of Lizzie). It took a very long time, mostly because the Macs we had wouldn't let us update to the newest version of GarageBand, so we didn't have the right instruments. However, in the end we only used a few seconds of the clip, but it definitely made a difference to our final trailer.

Soundtrack Progression

The editing stage has officially begun and now that footage is being put together, we can start to see the connection between the audio and video. We've decided that the trailer will have three soundtracks incorporated within it.

  • The first soundtrack establishes the remorse and pain the characters feel due to the situation.
  • The second soundtrack begins to build up the suspense/tension - this is where most of the plot will be explained to the audience.
  •  Finally, the third and final soundtrack will be used for the action part of our trailer - the drive, melody and enhanced volume will correspond with the fast-paced running scenes and lead the crescendo.

Soundtrack Ideas

It is safe to say that there are many non-copyrighted music websites that provide numerous genres and styles of music such as freestockmusic.com and incompetech.com. However, it has been extremely difficult to find appropriate music for our trailer despite the numerous sites. Incompetech.com in particular allowed us to search for 'suspenseful', 'action-based', music; which ultimately narrowed choices down to these soundtracks below:

There are elements within these tracks that we could use separately but it seems, almost every time, there is a certain instrument that ruins the mood/atmosphere for the trailer; which can be quite aggravating. We're staying optimistic and hoping we find a whole piece of music that correlates with our production.

SSD/External Hard Drive Issues (Samsung VS Apple)

Throughout production we filmed many scenes and as the days past, it started to get difficult to organise the numerous clips. Therefore, I decided to buy a new external hard drive so that we could store all of our footage in one place. Furthermore, having all production in one place made it easier to work at school and at home. However, there were conflicts between the franchises (Samsung, Apple) which meant that the hard drive was not compatible with the iMacs at school. Fortunately, I was able to format the drive and change the file system.
